About Myself

Dr. Wendler was born in Brazil, where in 1993 she graduated from the Federal University of Paraná Medical School, in Curitiba, one of Brazil’s foremost medical schools. After graduation, she moved to the United States to specialize in the field of psychiatry.

She completed four years of training in psychiatry in 1999 at the Texas Tech Health Science Center in El Paso, Texas. She then practiced to help the underserved, in a coal mine community, in rural West Virginia.

In 2004 she moved to Hawaii for a further year of subspecialty training in forensic psychiatry, at the University of Hawaii, equipping her to interact expertly with the legal system.

She also developed at this time expertise in postpartum psychiatric disorders. Dr. Wendler has worked as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the U.H. Department of Psychiatry from 2004 to 2017. In addition to English, she is fluent in Portuguese and understands Spanish.

From 2006 to 2014 Dr. Wendler worked for the Hawaii Department of Public Safety, practicing clinical and forensic psychiatry. This position allowed her to work closely with a great many victims of complex trauma. In 2014 she left this position and started her own practice of general clinical and forensic psychiatry. She treats adults and children 10 years of age and older.

Unlike many contemporary psychiatrists, Dr. Wendler, in addition to her medical and pharmacological expertise, is an experienced psychotherapist. She is licensed to  practice medicine in Hawaii and is Board Certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.
